Program Details

The Kresge Arts in Detroit office at the College for Creative Studies is seeking an inventive, organized, enthusiastic individual to join our team. The internship program offers individuals a combination of learning experiences, customized special projects and real-life practice for those with an interest in arts administration and philanthropic organizations. As part of a small team, this position will have a unique opportunity to be directly involved in the implementation of one of Detroit’s most significant fellowship programs in the arts. Interns will provide administrative and event support, with an opportunity to engage with local artists as well as lead and develop unique projects tailored to their interests. The position is facilitative and organizational, but also requires a creative and critical approach to support the goals of the program. This experience will be equally challenging as rewarding, and will lay the foundation for a successful career in the nonprofit/philanthropic arts sector.

 

About Kresge Arts in Detroit

Kresge Arts in Detroit represents one facet of The Kresge Foundation’s Detroit Program, a comprehensive community-development effort to strengthen the long-term economic, social and cultural fabric of the city and surrounding region. Kresge Arts in Detroit provides significant financial support for the Kresge Artist Fellowships (of $25,000 each) and the Kresge Eminent Artist Award (of $50,000) annually to metropolitan Detroit artists working in a variety of different arts disciplines.

 

Please Note: This internship is unpaid. Depending on approval of the student’s college or university, academic credit may be granted for internships. Student applicants should consult their academic advisor for additional information. Some financial compensation may be provided for specific projects.

 

Responsibilities

  • Conduct biographical and organizational research on artists, art venues and arts organizations
  • Create and maintain in-house database of completed research files
  • Assist with planning, organization and execution of events
  • Assist with mailings and digital media content, newsletters and emails
  • Collect information on local arts events, and assist with the management of arts calendar
  • Assist with day to day operations within the CCS office

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Availability for two days per week, for 3-4 hours per day (hours flexible)
  • Strong attention to detail with exceptional organizational skills
  • Strong research skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office, Web Applications, Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Use and understanding of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
  • Interest in the arts community and arts administration

DIGITAL MEDIA INTERNSHIP
FALL 2015/WINTER 2016

The Kresge Arts in Detroit office at the College for Creative Studies is seeking an organized and enthusiastic intern interested in expanding their photography and videography skills and experience. Kresge Arts in Detroit represents one facet of The Kresge Foundation’s Detroit Program, a comprehensive community-development effort to strengthen the long-term economic, social and cultural fabric of the city and surrounding region. Kresge Arts in Detroit provides significant financial support for the Kresge Artist Fellowships (of $25,000 each) and the Kresge Eminent Artist Award (of $50,000) annually to metropolitan Detroit artists working in the Dance/Music, Film/Theatre, Literary Arts and Visual Arts categories. This internship provides experience to students who have an interest in photography, social media, digital media, communications and photojournalism, especially as they relate to community engagement through arts and culture. Interns will gain valuable hands-on experience and an opportunity to build or expand a personal portfolio.

Description:Document special events, art exhibitions and performances using video and still photography. Develop a digital media archive and assist with the curation of content for our social media outlets, newsletters, blog and website.

Hours:1-2 days per week for a total of 4-8 hours per week (hours flexible). This position will require some evening/weekend hours to accommodate special events, performances and art exhibitions.

Primary Duties:

  • Document special events, art exhibitions and performances using still photography and video
  • Track local events that involve Kresge Fellows
  • Prepare photography/video for social media, newsletter, blog and website use
  • Obtain appropriate permissions and releases for use of digital media
  • Support special projects related to capturing, archiving and using digital media

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Upper level undergraduate or graduate student pursuing degrees in Photography, Photojournalism or Digital Media Arts preferred
  • Strong Adobe Creative Suite experience required
  • Fundamental photography and videography skills required
  • Interest in and enthusiasm for metropolitan Detroit’s arts and culture communities
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to take direction
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office, web applications)
  • Use and understanding of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
  • Strong interpersonal skills
