Kresge Arts in Detroit is honored to present the 2015 Kresge Artist Fellows in the Literary and Visual Arts. This new collection of Fellows are a talented, diverse group of artists representing many artist constituencies and creative practices within metropolitan Detroit. They are a fantastic group of emerging and established artists who reflect a cultural community that is hyper creative, functional and resilient.
Designed to elevate the profile of artists in our community, the Kresge Artist Fellowships provide a $25,000 award, public recognition and professional practice opportunities to artists residing in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne Counties. The Fellowships are generously funded by The Kresge Foundation and administered by the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. It remains both the Foundation’s and CCS’s unwavering belief that community life cannot flourish without the ideas, energy, and drive of individual artists. Now in its 7th year, Kresge Arts in Detroit has given $3.5 million directly to local artists, which has in turn helped to sustain a healthy cultural life in Detroit.
The Kresge Artist Fellowships provide artists with the time and resources to explore, to experiment and to develop their work over the year-long fellowship period. The fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis and the awardees were chosen out of over 650 applications by two panels of distinguished local and national artists and arts professionals.
We are pleased to support these outstanding artists and celebrate their contribution to the cultural vitality of our city and region.
